May at Twin Hills
by Don Douglas, Paul Hughes, and Sherri Mann
Good morning! Its official, golf tournament season has finally arrived. Our first Monday golf tournament was a huge success with Baker Hughes/Chesapeake on April 28th. A special thanks to all of our members who played in the tournament and we appreciate Baker Hughes hosting this event at Twin Hills.
Our first Couples Twilight Golf was held on Friday, April 18th and was very well attended. The winner’s were selected by a coin toss due to a tie. Blake & Donna Wade along with Tom & Annette Williams won the coin toss to win the first couples tournament. We have another tournament scheduled for Friday evening the 9th of May. A buffet dinner will follow play in the clubhouse. Please call the golf shop to sign up or for more details.
As golf season gets into full swing the conversation of slow play also begins. This was true at the recent board and golf committee meetings. During the weekend, several methods may be used to keep a round of golf under 3 hours and 45 minutes. These include using a marshall, allowing only foursomes on the weekend, or being considerate of the group behind you and letting them play through if there is an open hole in front of you. All of these options will be discussed at the next golf committee meeting.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11th and we are planning another incredible buffet. Brunch will be available from 11:00am until 2:00pm and the prices are as follows: Adults (13 & up) will be $24.95/pp, Children (4 through 12) will be $12.95/pp and 3 & under are complimentary. Please remember that a gratuity for the staff is not included in the price of the buffet. We ask that you kindly remember our staff as they will be working very hard to help make this day memorable. We also ask that you make a reservation for this special day so that we may better accommodate the many guests we will have.
Our Johnny Appleseed tournament to benefit our tree program was a huge success last year. We raised over $7,400.00 for our tree program which will allow us to spend $12,400.00 this year on tree planting. You may have noticed the elm trees being planted along the 13th fairway and the drive into the club. These are 19 survivor American elms which came from the survivor tree from the downtown memorial. They represent the 19 children who were lost on April 19th, 1995. We will be hosting another tournament this year, the Johnny Appleseed II, date and time to be announced.
Jerry Broughton, our Grounds and Greens Superintendent, and this staff are working very hard to complete backside sand traps and fairway bunkers. Completion is near. Thank you for bearing with us during this construction time.
Many of you may have noticed the work going on at the tennis courts. As you know we do not have tennis play at the club and the decision was made to convert the courts into an employee parking lot. This will free up the middle lot for member parking and provide us with an additional 40 parking spaces.
Membership at Twin Hills is still full with very few members on the list for sale. The current price of stock is $7,000.00. If you know of anyone interested in membership, please have them contact me, Paul Hughes here at the club.
The Men’s Spring Round-Up is scheduled for Thursday, May 15th and the Men’s Member/Member tournament is schedule for Saturday and Sunday, May 31st and June 1st respectively. For more information check out “Golf Shop News” or call our Pro Shop.
With the warmer weather and the month of May comes the opening of the swimming pool; which will open Saturday, May 24th, Memorial Day weekend. The pool and snack bar hours will be Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00am until 8:00pm and Sunday, 11:00am until 7:00pm. As always we ask that parents of little ones please remember to use swim diapers in order to prevent accidents in the pool. Due to Oklahoma laws such accidents require us to close the pool immediately and begin a 24 hour treatment process for your protection. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated by management and your fellow members. We also ask that members make an extra effort in the parking lot to help protect the little ones by watching out for them and slowing down while driving through the facility. Again your cooperation will help ensure a safe summer swim and golf season.
Memorial Day is Monday, May 26th and the pool and all club facilities will be OPEN, including the NP breakfast buffet from 7:00am until 10:30am. We’ll have a DJ at the pool playing all your favorite tunes, poolside beverage service and fun & games provided by the lifeguards. Plan on spending this fun-filled day here at the club and remember to bring plenty of sunscreen. Please remember all facilities will be CLOSED on Tuesday, May 27th.
The Grille hours have changed to 8:00am until 8:30pm Tuesday through Sunday. Please remember to make a reservation if you plan on dining in the grille as it will close promptly at 8:30pm unless a reservation for the evening has been made.
Dinner on the North Porch has also changed. Beginning the first weekend in May, dinner will be available on the North Porch on Friday evenings for the Seafood Buffet and Saturday evenings will be Family Style Fried Chicken. Dinner hours are from 5:30pm until 9:00pm. Dinner will also be available in the Grille, à la carte, Tuesday through Sunday until 8:30pm. A reservation is always appreciated for either the North Porch or Grille and will help us to serve you better.
Happy Cart Trails!

Employee of the Month
The management team of Twin Hills is proud to announce that we will be featuring an employee for “Employee of the Month” in each edition of the newsletter beginning with the month of May.
This month’s employee of the month is Ms. Loraine Mays or “Rainey” as many of her friends call her. Loraine has given 37 years of service to Twin Hills as Supervisor of the Grille. She has also been in charge of the Ladies Locker Room and Card Room and has coordinated many events such as luncheons and ladies bridge days.
She has four children and three grandchildren and just celebrated her 65th birthday on March 30th. Sadly, we were not able to share that with her as she has been in the hospital for several months now. Many of you may have already noticed the absence of Loraine in the Grille. We are not sure at this time if she will be able to return to work but will keep her in our thoughts and prayers and wish her a very speedy recovery.
